The New York-based renewable energy company met with success speaking to developers, manufactures, and investors during the four-day event.

Rochester, N.Y. – September 25, 2015: Rochester-based Sunvestment Energy Group (SEG) reports a successful showing at one of the nation’s pre-eminent solar conferences, Solar Power International (SPI), held September 14-17 in Anaheim, California.

“We had substantive conversations with a number of developers and financiers, from small installers to very large, national companies with global name recognition,” says SEG President Jim Kurtz. “Across this spectrum we found support for our mission and an interest in our approach. Our online portal, standardized documents, and community funding strategy are designed to open up solar development in markets long isolated from more mainstream funding.”

SEG’s online platform consists of a powerful suite of tools and services that bring all stakeholders—customers, investors, and contractors—together to conduct transactions, simplifying what has previously been a fragmented and opaque process.

Through this platform:

• Community organizations are able to contact our team of advisers to plan their project, design their system, conduct a financial analysis, and generate a proposal to present to decision makers and prospective investors;
• Investors have dedicated dashboards where they can manage their solar investment portfolios and access the associated investment and tax documents; and
• Developers have the ability to submit projects through a streamlined intake process. SEG will evaluate the submissions and provide financial proposals for delivery to their clients.

SEG was invited to SPI in the invitation-only “Startup Alley” section of the conference, which featured businesses seeking to bring transformative innovation to the industry. Selected for this recognition as one of only a handful from over 114 entries (SEG’s application video can be viewed here), the SEG booth saw steady traffic throughout the time of the conference.

In addition to participating in Startup Alley, SEG used the event to launch the beta version of its website. “We thought SPI was the perfect place to reveal our new beta website and gather feedback from our potential client base,” says Matt Rankin, SEG’s Vice President of Business Development. “The conference gave us a forum to show the industry what we have completed and where we intend to go, and it allowed us to gather feedback for the next iteration.”

Formed in 2014, SEG seeks to empower communities by bringing more of the benefits and savings of solar energy to businesses, community organizations, municipalities, and nonprofit entities—all while simultaneously facilitating opportunities for community investment in these projects.

Funding for the web platform development is supported by grants from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), as well as the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative.
